A midcentury kitchen with modern flow and functionality.
The design of this full kitchen renovation is rooted in the home’s midcentury history combined with the classic yet casual style of the current owners. Clean lines, classic materials and a limited color palette are softened by the varying textures of tile, marble and the warm white oak cabinetry.
To improve flow, we relocated a load-bearing wall just nine inches into the adjacent family room. This small adjustment allowed for better appliance placement, making the room feel larger and providing space for a large picture window. A column of new cabinetry accommodated for the shifting load, which saved the client extra expense without sacrificing the design.
To open up the kitchen and make it feel more spacious, we removed the upper cabinets around the previous window. To counter that loss, we designed more generous cabinets that flanked the custom breakfast nook bench.
